Master’s programs for pharmacists with a valid licence to practise in Québec

Master’s in Advanced Pharmacotherapy

In this 4-semester master’s program (16 consecutive months), you’ll gain the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to work as a pharmacist in a healthcare facility. You’ll become a more effective leader and be ready to succeed as a pharmacist in advocating for quality care and services. You’ll also learn to look at hospital pharmacy practice with a critical eye.

The courses are designed to fine tune knowledge already acquired at the bachelor’s or undergraduate pharmacy degree level and examine specific aspects of pharmacy practice in a healthcare setting.

This limited-space program accepts 35 to 40 students. Some 40 government scholarships are available.

Progression: This is a standard full-time program completed in a year and a half (four semesters). Part-time status is an option for pharmacists already working in healthcare, with their program director’s approval (some restrictions apply).

Intensive track: Most courses are offered in the first semester (fall). Students then undertake a 12-month internship in a hospital or other healthcare facility.

Short Graduate Program in Pharmacy Management

This 12-credit program introduces future pharmacy owners to the principles and techniques of all aspects of managing a community pharmacy in compliance with the professional, ethical, and legal requirements they must uphold.

Part time: Can only be taken part time, so it takes more than two semesters to complete the program.

Master’s programs

Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences (with thesis)

This scientific program teaches the skills you need to practise pharmacy or it can lay the groundwork for studies at the PhD level. With your diploma in hand, you’ll be ready to help solve issues surrounding the development and therapeutic use of a medication.

Full or part time: You set the pace.

Remote courses: Certain courses can be taken remotely, helping you balance your education with everything else you do.

Hybrid courses: A highly flexible arrangement combining the advantages of in-person and distance learning. Classes meet once a month or every two weeks, depending on how the course is taught.

Certain courses offered in French and English: You decide which language you want to study in. It’s a great way to improve your language skills.

Option to write papers in English: With the approval of your research supervisor, you can choose to write and defend your research papers in English.

Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Pharmacoepidemiology (with thesis)

If you’re interested in how medications are used among the population and in the quality, risks, and benefits of medication use or if you want to play a role in the analysis of procedures to improve how medications are used, this course is for you. Pharmacoepidemiological data is taken from administrative databases and studies among medication users and healthcare professionals. Procedures aimed at improving medication use can target both groups.

You’ll build on your theoretical knowledge and your pharmacoepidemiological abilities to develop the skills you need to practise in this area. You’ll learn how to exercise judgment in your choice of research methods and you’ll participate in the creation, planning, and execution of a pharmacoepidemiological study. You’ll present your results orally and in writing. With your diploma in hand, you’ll be ready to participate in pharmacoepidemiological studies or continue on to a PhD.

Master’s in Business Administration – Pharmaceutical Management

This program will teach you the valuable skills you need to tackle key issues in pharmaceutical management. You’ll also learn the basics of business administration. You’ll fine tune one or more facets of organizational management in relation to pharmacy depending on your academic background, your interests, and your career goals.

All MBAs and professional master’s programs in the Faculty of Business Administration are designed to enhance your knowledge, analytical capability, and critical thinking skills to improve your aptitude for making complex business decisions. In addition to developing your management skills, these programs prepare you for a career in a globalized business environment. What’s more, they’ll turn you into a manager or analyst with strong ethics, a sense of corporate responsibility, leadership abilities, and an aptitude for communication.

Graduate Short Program in Pharmacy – Pharmaceutical Product Development

This 11-credit graduate short program will give you the skills you need to meet the challenges of pharmaceutical product development. You’ll learn about the various stages in the development process and the product creation framework as you interact with experts from all sectors involved: R&D specialists, engineers, clinicians, regulatory affairs specialists, medical consultants, lawyers, etc.

Part time: Can only be taken part time (minimum of 16 months, unless classes are cancelled).

Flexible schedule: This program makes it easy to manage your schedule and balance your education with everything else going on in your life. It’s a great option for students who also have work commitments.

Pharmacoepidemiology draws on epidemiological methods and reasoning to assess the use, effectiveness, risks, and benefits of medications in real life, usually over large populations.
